Job Purpose:

My Client is seeking a highly motivated DevOps Engineer to join their team of skilled professionals. Attitude is just as important as experience with a particular set of tools. There are a lot of moving pieces to fit together, and they’re looking for colleagues with great communication and interpersonal skills, who can communicate easily with other people who have various levels of technical expertise. You must be able to integrate into a team where its individuals are looking for challenges on a daily basis, thus pushing them to be top of the notch professionals. You must also be passionate about Software Engineering and self-motivated, as well as able to drive yourself out of your comfort zone on a daily basis, trying to improve your skills and knowledge. You are expected to be able to identify the value and long term benefits of the high standards established and are able to cope with them.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Automation of processes and daily routines.
  • Show your colleagues the right way to build and release software.
  • Design, implement and administer software build & deployment systems and environments.
  • Work with development, operations, testing and others to identify and resolve bottlenecks in the path to production.
  • You will be required to carry out deployments and deliver continual improvement, reducing roll backs, increasing the number of successful increments to live, improving traceability, stability and uptime.
  • You will ensure operational issues are resolved rapidly and with minimum disruption, by providing the appropriate support to team members.
  • Work with Software Development teams to improve the readiness for Operational Deployment.
  • Explore and evaluate new techniques and tools.
  • You will be required to work a rotating shift pattern with other engineers.

Person Specification, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:

5+ years’ experience in software engineering.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or similar.

Experience with implementing automated build processes.

Proficient with Linux system administration, including storage, networks, and software.

Working knowledge of fundamental protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS).

Working experience with Web Service APIs: REST, XML, JSON.

Working experience with continuous integration/continuous delivery principles.

Guru writing scripts (Python, Ruby, Bash, and/or others).

Familiarity with one or more Database and SQL dialects: MySQL, Oracle, Postgres, SQLite.

Aptitude for software development with solid software engineering fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, source code control, etc.).

Highly motivated to embrace and promote an Infrastructure as Code mind set – software defined everything. Required:

Experience with Git.

  • Experience with GitLab pipelines (or Jenkins pipelines).
  • Expert in one or more programming/scripting languages: Java, Ruby, Perl, Python, Bash.
  • Experience with cloud/hybrid architectures (AWS & VMware).
  • Experience with some of the following tools: Terraform, Packer, Ansible, Vault.
  • Strong focus on efficiency, simplicity and maintainability.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • An amazing attention to detail.

Highly Desirable:

  • Good written communication skills.
  • Experience with highly available enterprise environments utilising load-balancing network devices and proxy servers.
  • Familiar with µService architectures.
  • Familiar with data grids and NoSql solutions (Hazelcast, Redis, MongoDB).
  • Familiar with message brokers (ActiveMQ, Kafka).
  • Familiar with Hadoop/hdfs.
  • Experience with monitoring solutions (New Relic, OpenTSDB, Prometheus or others).
  • Experience with Tomcat or (Jetty, Glassfish).
