Job Responsibilities and Duties

  • Be responsible for managing the running of a safe and efficient finance function, working within clear guidelines to help achieve defined outcomes for the business and the customer;
  • Managing a team of 5 persons;
  • Overall management of the Finance function and leading the team;
  • Financial Planning and Budgeting – including forecasting, estimates and supporting the strategic direction for the Group / Business Unit / function and developing these into short (budget) and medium term plans (MTP / IBP);
  • Financial Control – ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and group policies. Managing funding requirements, with the support of the Group Treasury functions, manage risk controlling;
  • Financial Performance Analysis and Reporting – analyzing and reporting of financial activity in a timely and transparent way with recommendations where appropriate. Holding periodic reviews with managers / staff;
  • Business Controlling – driving financial and operational performance and initiating corrective measures to achieve profitability targets. Managing cost modeling process and profitability analysis (by product, customer, lane, etc.);
  • Project Controlling / Investment Review – supporting business in evaluating business proposals with a view to maximizing returns whilst minimizing risk, including assessment of capital investment projects and involvement in acquisition proposals;
  • Tax Management / Planning – ensuring optimal tax position for the business, in conjunction with Corporate Tax and utilizing internal or external country tax expertise;
  • Treasury – maintaining optimum cash levels, whilst minimizing exposure; managing local relationships with group-authorized banking institutions and manage in-house banking activities;
  • Accounting and Billing Activities – overseeing delivery of all activities for the country in scope either through own internal accounting team or internal provider (SSC) or through managing outsourcing to third parties;
  • Commercial Support – supporting business partners in commercial negotiations with customers, suppliers with particular reference to pricing, payment terms, liability cover, termination costs and credit risk;
  • Provide financial management and controlling service to specific business area(s);
  • Professional leader and budget manager for Finance team with higher focus on operational Finance activities;
  • Provide guidance and consulting on financial matters to senior business team, drawing on specialist colleagues as needed;
  • Ensure financial service delivery, process improvement, change implementation of financial changes;
  • Handle and resolve complex and more difficult controlling issues (e.g. adjusting for taxes, VAT, varying local legal requirements);
  • Manage vendor / service relationship and service level agreements with specific Business Unit / partner for range of financial services;
  • Focus on ensuring positive business impact of Finance within own area.


  • At least 3 years' financial experience;
  • At least 1 year experience as Finance Manager/ Business controlling Management or Financial Auditing and/or Accounting;
  • Logistics industry experience preferable but not required;
  • Holding an Accounting degree or in the final stages of ACCA;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; Maltese is a real plus but not a must.
