Legal and Compliance Manager – Must have iGaming background


Salary: Flexible


The Company

My client are a leader in the European betting market. They are expanding massively due to high levels of success and growing their Legal team.


The Job

You will be responsible for the legal and compliance matters of the Maltese office.

You will provide leadership by clearly communicating the mission and goals of the Company to direct reports.

This role will suit a legal professional with a broad range of experience who can demonstrate a commercial approach.


Your main functions:

  • Direct and oversee the day to day operations of the legal team ensuring high standard of practice, timely and accurate legal advice and in the different areas of the business
  • Negotiate and draft commercial contracts with third parties, media suppliers, and software licensing agreements
  • Managing corporate law issues including day to day and more strategic issues as necessary
  • Assist with dispute and litigation
  • Establish or maintain strong relationship with regulators in the main jurisdictions (mainly in the UK, Malta and Italy)
  • Implement and manage policies and procedures to ensure that all entities in the group, and all products and services offered, are compliant with the relevant license requirements, legislative and Gaming regulations
  • Advise on relevant legislative/regulatory changes and implementing changes in the group policies and procedures
  • Managing a small team (currently 2)
  • The employee may be required to undertake other duties from time to time with the Company or with any Group Company, as the Company may reasonably require


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Lawyer with a strong academic background
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience ;
  • Excellent knowledge of International (EU) Law, and knowledge of Maltese Law an advantage
  • Exposure to relevant gambling projects would be an advantage
  • Strong commercial contract drafting/negotiation experience (affiliation and marketing agency agreements)
  • Corporate matters including day to day and more strategic issues.
  • Experience of tax law
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a fast paced, multi-cultural environment;
  • Required to work well and effectively under pressure, to be pro-active when appropriate and experience in dealing with small teams in various Country locations building strong working relationships
  • Ability to find pragmatic and creative solutions to complex legal business issues where appropriate;
  • Languages: fluent in English, any other language (especially Italian and Spanish) would be a plus
