They are seeking a Lead Developer  to come and sit under the  CTO and be a team leader but who can still be hands on, particularly with architecture ( Java / Scala) and ideally have a good working knowledge of front end development i.e. JavaScript.  Please see more details below. Job Description;

You are a great and seasoned developer, detail focused, and ready for your next challenge. You still want to have a hands on role, but you’re ready to take the next step, hire your dream team, and work with great external partners. You will report directly to our Chief Operating Officer and be responsible for ensuring the platform architecture is modern and fit for purpose. You will also play a key role in managing and providing direction to our outsourced partners and building an internal team to complement our partners and ensure we have full control of our ‘shop window’.

You will be responsible for:

  • Design highly scalable, available, and resilient cloud-native applications
  • Maintain and continually update a well-informed cloud strategy
  • Build a close relationship with the external platform development company to ensure the continuous delivery of the platform that was built using Scala, Python, Javascript and React and deployed on the public cloud
  • Play an integral role with both contracting near shore team(s) and/or recruiting internal team to meet the ever growing development needs of the organisation
  • Work closely with the product team to understand and anticipate business requirements
  • Integrate Google Cloud Platform services and other 3rd party applications as needed
  • Hands-on mentoring, guidance and leadership internally and externally – jump in and write code when required
  • Provide guidance to teams on architecture, development standards, automation and tools
  • Deep dive into application performance monitoring to ensure high standards and to fix any bottlenecks
  • Ensure that devops is a modern, automated function, and provide guidance on best practices

 REQUIREMENTS You have:

  • Confident leader with both strong programming skills and a creative, customer focused mindset
  • BSc. or M.Sc. in computer science or a related field, with academic knowledge of computer science (algorithms, data structures etc.) and 5-8 years of software development experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Participation in the full life cycle of a large project: design, implementation, test, release and maintenance
  • Proficient with Java and Scala and exposure to, or professional knowledge of Node.Js, JavaScript, React, TypeScript
  • Solid object-oriented programming experience
  • Self-driven with strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in designing, building, deploying and maintaining complex end-to-end data pipelines and analytics features
  • Knowledge of SQL language and relational database systems
  • Commercial experience working with at least some of Postgres, Couchbase, ElasticSearch, Kafka, Rabbit, Redis
  • Experience with transaction-heavy, distributed systems, messaging, Microservices or technologies such as GCP, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform would be a plus
  • Subject matter expert of automation and tooling as part of the software lifecycle
